Temperatures Soaring? Here’s Your Summer Skincare Routine For Every Skin Type

It’s that time of year when you dig through your closet for flowy and breezy dresses, loose clothing, and swimsuits in preparation for an outing or trip. While summer is a great time to let loose and embrace yourself, it is not the best season for your skin. As we welcome the hottest season of the year, we unwittingly invite unwelcome guests such as suntan, pigmentation, patchy skin, and many others. And, unfortunately, they can become a permanent fixture in our lives. You can, however, physically close the doors to these unruly skin issues before they grow on you and make way for beauty and wellness.

But what if I have blemish-free, flawless skin? Do I need to follow a skincare routine?

It is a resounding YES!

To feel comfortable in your skin, you need to adopt a routine that’s exclusive to you and champions your take on skincare and beauty.

Just like the different hues of life and seasons, the way your skin functions begins to change as it welcomes the warmer months. It’s time then to let go of your thick moisturizers and lotions and go for something lighter – gels and face mists.

Your skin is more than just a protective layer over our bones and muscles; it is the body’s primary defense shield against harsh sunlight, chilly winters, raging winds, pouring rains, dust, dirt, pollution, and other environmental factors. Because our skin constantly gets exposed to these various elements, it necessitates a dedicated and consistent skincare regimen to keep it glowing and healthy.

However, to provide the best possible care for your skin, you must first understand the various skin types, skin conditions, and finally, the skincare products that suit your skin the best.

We have all heard the phrase skin type. But what exactly does this mean? Skin type essentially refers to how and why your skin looks, feels, and behaves in the way that it does.

Skin type primarily gets determined by genetics, so if you have beautiful skin, remember to thank your elders, as they most likely passed it down to you. Furthermore, skin type gets decided by the size of the sebaceous gland, which secretes the oily substance known as sebum, which helps to lubricate and waterproof the skin.

Using the right products in your skincare regimen to cleanse, exfoliate, moisturize, and protect the skin from UV rays will help you avoid or overcome skin problems that commonly affect different skin types during the summer months.

Continue reading to discover how to maintain your most beautiful summer skin all season long by adhering to the ideal regimen for the hot, sunny months ahead.

Without further ado, we will walk you through the process of developing a skincare routine for the hot summer months, according to your skin type. Follow these tips for radiant, healthy skin, even on the hottest days of summer.

YOUR SUMMER SKINCARE ROUTINE, FOR YOUR SKIN TYPE!

Dry Skin

If you have dry skin, you won’t have too many problems during the summer because the humidity protects your skin and allows you to skip the heavy moisturizers.

Just the skincare routine for you:

For cleansing, moisturizing, and sun protection, use lightweight, hydrating milk and lotions. These will not leave a greasy residue on your skin and will absorb quickly.

Quick home fix:

If you have tanned dry skin, scrub it in a circular motion with a mixture of sugar, lemon juice, and glycerin.

Oily, Acne-prone Skin

Oily skin suffers the most during the summer months because your pores can become clogged and aggravate your acne.

Just the skincare routine for you:

Invest in a salicylic acid foaming cleanser, a lightweight gel moisturizer, and a mattifying sunscreen. If your sunscreen is too greasy, try mixing in a few drops of calamine lotion to cool it down.

Quick home fix:

Apply a mud-based face mask once a week to remove dead cells, excess sebum, and oiliness. If you have acne-prone skin, ensure that your gut health is in order, that you’re drinking enough water, and that you’re taking your vitamin A, zinc, and antioxidant supplements as directed. Instead of touching your breakouts, apply an erythromycin gel to them before going to bed to reduce their severity.

Combination Skin

While your skin concerns are similar to those of people with oily/acne-prone skin, you may also have rashes and redness on your face.

Just the skincare routine for you:

To remove excess oil and dirt from your skin, use a non-soapy face wash twice a day. If your oil-free moisturizer feels too heavy in the sun, try a hydrating serum first, followed by mattifying sunscreen.

Normal Skin

Even if normal skin is unaffected during the summer, the accumulation of dead skin cells gives your face a dull appearance.

Just the skincare routine for you:

While you can continue to use your favorite gel-based face wash and light moisturizer, it’s essential to exfoliate your skin two to three times per week to keep it feeling and looking good. You can also use a hydrating face mask once a week to keep your skin plump during the summer months.

Quick home fix:

After refrigerating a pack of cucumber, oats, and almonds, use it to cool and de-tan your skin.

When your skin faces the heat, you need to treat it gently. In the summers, you have to deal with scorching sun rays every day. So, don’t let acne and other skin problems add to the troubles. These skincare routines, according to your skin type, will give you healthy, glowing skin. Why not give it a try! If your skin is too sensitive, it is always advisable to consult a dermatologist before you opt for any products or home remedies of your own.

How about giving yourself a break and exploring the real you now that your skincare routine is in place for summer!
